SAFE BUSINESS EVENTS (SAFEBE)

Travel Safe Alliance Malaysia (TSAM) is a partnership among four key players within the tourism industry who are committed to increasing market confidence in Malaysia as a business and leisure travel destination. The four partners, namely the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS), and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), have established a comprehensive safe travel solution certified by Bureau Veritas Certification Malaysia. It was launched by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, YB Dato Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, in Langkawi on 10 October 2021.

Our newly launched safety programme named Safe Business Events (SafeBE) Certification Programme is one of the certification programmes of TSAM apart from the Travel Safe Certification Programme (initiated by MATTA) and Clean & Safe Malaysia Certification Programme (initiated by MAH).

Health and safety protocols is a complex process that requires a wealth of skills and experience in various fields. Business Events is witnessing a rapid growth of new health safety ideas, measures, and frameworks from the very simple to the advanced. The SafeBE Certification Programme aims to demonstrate an international framework needed to ensure that venue facilities are safe, clean, and certified at the highest standards of health and safety measures to maintain a safe environment, not just what local authorities may prescribe.

MACEOS has appointed Bureau Veritas (M) Sdn Bhd (known as Bureau Veritas) as the third-party audit agency to inspect and audit the exhibition and convention centre in Malaysia based on the latest SOPs regulated by National Security Council (known as MKN – Majlis Keselamatan Negara) and recommendations by Malaysia health authorities. SafeBE Certification Programme is developed following Bureau Veritas’ SafeGuard international standard besides local safety guidelines. Therefore, audits of venues will be conducted, which may lead to accreditation recognised by Bureau Veritas.

We strongly recommend that our members from the exhibition & convention centre sector get their centre certified under the SafeBE Certification Programme, supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC).

How it works:

  1. Register your intention for the audit with Bureau Veritas via the following registration link.

Audit Fee – within the range of RM600-RM1,000 (subject to the venue size)

  1. Define the checklist – Bureau Veritas will get in touch with your team and provide you with the audit checklist designed according to ‘SafeBE’ for preparation.
  2. Conduct the Audit – Bureau Veritas will arrange a field audit (on-site audit).
  3. Certification & Label Granted – Bureau Veritas will grant the exhibition & convention centre with the certificate and the label. The label comes with a unique barcode that allows tracing of centres’ certification information, as well as contact information, through Bureau Veritas’ global public website designed specially for this project. www.myradar.bureauveritas.com/ryb
  4. Certificates and labels are valid for three years. An annual audit is needed for each valid certification.
