The time to act is now!

As Malaysia’s business events industry stands at a pivotal crossroads, MACEOS is calling on all members and stakeholders to rally behind a vital initiative aimed at safeguarding the sector’s future. With only 30% of the RM120,000 fundraising target achieved (as at 26 May 2025), this is more than a financial appeal — it’s a strategic effort to reshape the nation’s BE landscape.

At the heart of this campaign lies the ambition to advocate for a new, larger convention centre — a facility that can compete on a global scale. Alongside this is the commissioning of a certified, data-driven research study that will serve as the foundation for meaningful engagement with the government and other national stakeholders. This is about building the case with facts, not assumptions.

“This may be our last opportunity to act decisively,” urges Dato’ Vincent Lim, Honorary President of MACEOS and President of AFECA.

The urgency is real. Our neighbours — Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines — have already made bold moves, developing convention venues that span over 100,000 square metres. In contrast, Malaysia’s largest facility, MITEC, tops out at just 45,000 square metres, limiting our ability to confidently bid for mega-scale international events.

Without a competitive venue and the data to back our advocacy, Malaysia risks being left behind in the fast-evolving regional events economy.

This initiative is not just about today’s business — it is about laying the foundation for the next generation, for future event professionals, and for Malaysia’s continued relevance and competitiveness in the global arena.

We urge you — as a member of the MACEOS community and a key stakeholder in this industry — to step forward and support this movement. Together, we can build the future of Malaysia’s business events sector.
